15 Pictures to Inspire You to Travel to Oxford

August 21, 2017

Once again I find myself in Southern England. I've lost a count how many times I've jumped off a night bus in London Victoria on my way to meet a friend who lives down south. 12 hour bus ride from Aberdeen is no joke but couple of days away from university life tends to do miracles. The casual plan would be to watch films while waiting my friend to get out of work but routines are lethal and there are way too many places I still haven't visited in England so one morning I decide to catch a train to Oxford.

Oxford was love at the first sight and there are no words big enough to describe the magic of the city. My day was filled with old university buildings and historical sights. You can smell inspiration in the air. This is where people who want to change the world come to study. This is the city where some of my all time favorite writers shared their stories in a little pub called The Eagle and The Child. Pitt River Museum's anthropological collections take me to a journey across the world and wandering along the streets of the old town just makes me wish people would still build cities of stone.

I spent the whole day just walking around the city with my camera. I believe that the secret behind every amazing city is that you don't need to visit bunch of sights to enjoy yourself because the city itself is mesmerising enough to make your day great.

I may have ran into approximately 5000 Chinese tourist that day and there may have been an entrance fee to every single building in the city but I just didn't care. Oxford is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places I've visited in UK and even the crazy tourism industry couldn't ruin it for me.

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. Let me describe in 15 000 words why you should go and experience Oxford yourself.

Am I a total loser if writing this post inspired me to return to Oxford? What sort of person gets inspired by her own writings? Dear Oxford, I shall return.

Have you been Oxford? Did you love it as much as I did?

  2. It's like you can't even go anywhere in Oxford without running into an amazingly beautiful building! I love that you said you can smell inspiration in the air! That's totally how I would describe it, based on your pictures. And it's kind of fun...I have to keep reminding myself that people actually live there. I'd have to pinch myself every day to make sure I wasn't dreaming. It's so beautiful!
